Annealed glass is the most common glass used in windows. Annealing is a process of slowly cooling glass to relieve internal stresses after it is formed. This type of glass can be edged and polished, custom-cut and drilled to create an array of products, including windows and cabinet doors. Annealed glass tends to break into longer, jagged shards. It is generally used when strength or safety are not a concern. Annealed glass supplied by Thermalsun meets the quality requirements of ASTM C1036 (Standard Specification for Flat Glass).
Glass with fully tempered surfaces is typically four times stronger than annealed glass and two times as strong as heat-strengthened glass of the same thickness, size and type. In the event that fully tempered glass is broken, it will break into fairly small pieces, reducing the chance for injury. In doing so, the small glass shards make it more likely that the glass will become separated from the opening. All manufactured tempered glass meets the quality requirements of ASTM C1036, ASTM C1048 (Standard Specification for Heat-Treated Flat Glass). Thermalsun's Tempered glass also meets the safety criteria of CPSC 16 CFR 1201 Categories 1 & 2, as well as ANSI Z97.1.
Laminated glass is made by bonding multiple layers of glass together under high pressure and heat. This technique makes a single sheet of glass with multiple layers a type of safety glass that holds together when shattered. Laminated glass is also very flexible – it will flex before shattering into pieces. Skylights and automobile windshields typically use laminated glass.
Insulating Glass increases a window’s thermal performance for either residential or commercial applications . Our insulated units are constructed with two or more pieces of glass, separated by a desiccant-filled spacer then sealed with a primary sealant (PIB) and a secondary sealant (Poly-sulfide or silicone). Customers can choose from a number of combinations of Insulating Glass using tinted glass, spandrel, Low-E and solar reflective coatings or laminated glass to help you create your unique designs and achieve desired light transmission levels and solar control options. Thermalsun's manufactured Insulated units are certified by Associated Laboratories Inc. to meet ASTM E2190 (Standard specification for Insulating Glass Unit Performance & Evaluation). If you would like to learn more - please contact one of our customer service representatives for more information on our insulated glass capabilities. Samples are available upon request!
Spandrel is used for the panel(s) of a wall located between vision areas of windows, which conceal structural columns floors and shear walls. We have the complete range of standard colors and can color match custom orders.
Heavy Glass is used for glass doors or walls that provides unobscured visibility and natural light. Heavy Glass is typically monolithic or single pane thick glass where the edges are exposed which need to be finished by mitering or polishing for the best look. Contact our sales representatives for more information on our heavy glass products.
